2012 provided a long, cool season at our Pinot Noir site near Occidental. Yields were moderate, and that may have helped provide some of the hang-time, leading to a wine of grace and perfume rather than brute power. We find aromas of black cherry, strawberry, anise, clove, sassafras, thyme, and violet. The palate is luxuriously smooth and supple, with the full complexity on display at this stage with a quick decant. The tannins provide only a grace note in this classy, aromatic, finesse-driven wine. Fermented with native yeasts, barrel-aged in 50% new French oak barrels, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
